Jazz Harpist, Anita Clark Jaynes featuring Mark Benson, woodwinds

Anita Clark Jaynes started playing the harp at the age of 11 in the Omaha Public Schools. She went on to earn bachelor’s degrees in harp performance and jazz studies from Indiana University where she studied with the renowned jazz educator David Baker. She subsequently earned a master’s degree from New York University with a concentration in urban ethnomusicology. She has published several articles in “Down Beat” magazine and the “Jazz Educators’ Journal.”
Anita was a founding member with Luigi Waites of the group that started Sunday night jazz at Mister Toad in the Old Market 40 years ago. She has played with the Omaha and Lincoln symphony orchestras, Opera Omaha, the Lincoln Midwest Ballet, Orchestra Omaha, the MasterSingers, Mannheim Steamroller, and innumerable musical theater productions. She plays therapeutic harp music at the Josie Harper Hospice House. She enjoys playing many different musical genres and recently contributed to Dana Murray’s acclaimed recording “Negro Manifesto.”
